Design Your Dream Destiny

Designing your dream destiny… What the heck does that mean?

What happens when we design something? First, we conceive it in our minds and then we make decisions about what we really want in life. For the entrepreneurs I work with, they design prototypes, they’re tinkering and testing and they’re laying out plans. When building a house, we hire an architect to design the layout of the home before we start building. How often do we sit and really pause and think about designing our dreams and what we want for our lives?

Today I want to talk to you about the 3 steps to design your dream destiny and the one magic question that will really get it done.

I think back to 27 years ago, my very first week working as a lawyer in San Fransisco at this big giant firm and I had a meeting with the senior partner Mary Ellen Ritchie and I had this brochure for going to a computer lawyers conference, and I said “Mary Ellen, gee, I don’t know if I should spend a week going to do this because it’s a lot of time and I’m not sure that's really where I want my career to go. I haven’t really thought about designing the right lawyer career and practice that I want.” She looked at me and said “Gina, pick something. Pick something and focus on it. If you don’t like it you can change to something else. Otherwise, you will be like the other 100 attorneys here who never chose, who work for me and design my dreams. So get it together and design your own dreams. And by the way that applies to life too.”

So here we go!

Step 1: Pause and think about what you really want. What does your dream life look like? What does it sound like? What do you feel when you have it? Get clarity on it!

Step 2: Sit down, grab a piece of paper, and design it. Draw it. You don’t have to be an artist just draw it out. Write the words, maybe do a vision board, get pictures, and tape them up. Whatever it is, design it like you would a house. Design your dreams.

Step 3: Ask yourself this question - what has to happen so that I can make this dream a reality? Now of course as you’re doing this you’re going to think well that could never happen, I don’t have the money, I don’t have the resources, I don’t have the time, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Remember the only thing preventing you from having everything in life are the stories you tell yourself about why you can’t have them. So ditch the stories and this is how….

The magical question: Who do you need to become to make that dream a reality? Do you need to be a visionary, do you need to have grit, do you need to be inspired? Who do you need to be?

I have a secret to share. 12 years ago I designed a vision board about wanting a beautiful ranch. I called it The Enchanted Dreams Ranch. There are pictures of a log cabin, it has pictures of dense forests, there is a picture of snow because I wanted to experience the seasons, and there’s a picture of a body of water because I love to be in the water. There's an aerial view of a compound because I wanted different buildings all around the property. Well, guess what? I’m here right now at my Magical Moments Ranch and I have all of that! Because I took the time to design it, I took the time to create a plan to manifest it and make it happen. I took the steps, I saved the money, I looked around until I found it and then I figured out a way to make it happen. All because I decided to design my dream destiny and make it a reality.

What’s your dream and how can you make it a reality?

Have a Beautiful Day…
